'FinTech' stands for a whole range of innovative companies that are utilising technology to change finance. But what exactly do they do, how are they different from what we already have and perhaps most importantly, how do they impact you personally?
This seminar does not have an in-depth, 'techy' answer to all of these questions but it does offer a structured overview of some areas of finance (notably payments) that will be strongly affected by FinTechs. It sets out to explain in clear terms what types of FinTechs there are and and how they shape up against traditional banks. The role of Hong Kong as a regional FinTech Hub and connector to mainland China is reviewed, as well as the ability of mainland Chinese companies to export their FinTech innovations abroad. Finally, an overview of FinTech innovations with real world applications (eg. BlockChain in Trade Finance) is presented.
