In recent years, ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) movements have made significant strides in addressing environmental concerns ("E"), with corporations ingraining the understanding, measurement, disclosure, and management of climate risks into their core operations. Meanwhile, however, social considerations ("S") have arguably been receiving less attention. This raises the question: Can environmental sustainability be achieved without equal emphasis on supporting societal well-being?
This issue is becoming critical. According to the UN, fertility in all European countries is now below the level required for full replacement of the population in the long run and the same is starting to happen in Asia at an alarming rate. In the face of historically male-dominated life and career pathways, a growing number of women are actively pursuing equal career opportunities and are opting to have fewer children compared to previous decades.
This shift, alongside various other factors, is contributing to significant demographic changes in economies worldwide that will impact businesses at all levels. Hence, changing corporate attitudes and strategies is a discussion that needs to start now. In this talk, Nicole Yuen, the Founder and CEO of the Women Workplace Index will share her insights, as well as how and why, together we, the corporate community, can change the status quo.
