We are pleased to welcome you to a Travel Talk happy hour. Come and join us for an opportunity to meet like-minded members and Peter Schindler, founder of On the Road Experiences, to discuss the wonders of road journeys in Asia and the freedom these styles of travel give us. Freedom, comfort, privacy, time with friends and family – all the more precious, after the hiatus of travelling imposed on us the past few years.

With driving holidays, your car becomes home away from home. Go where you want, stop when you like – take a photo, stretch your legs, enjoy a beautiful view. See places that the majority of travellers never get to; often the friendliest people and the most pristine environments can be found in the most remote places.

On the Road Experiences specialises in delivering this blend of comfort and adventure on guided driving journeys. Each journey is carefully planned to create a memorable and carefree experience, whether it involves winding over mountain passes or crossing borders in Asia.

This evening we will share stories from the roads of Japan and Cambodia....

SOUL of Japan: this itinerary runs through the more sparsely populated regions of Kyushu (九州) and Shikoku (四國) away from the Shinkansen. Discover amazing stories steeped in tradition, crafts and life experiences, some of which unknown even to the locals. This drive will take you to the less accessible yet stunning landscapes and culturally rich places, best experienced by car.
BEYOND ANGKOR, Cambodia: the vast majority of visitors to Cambodia focus on a mere handful of sights. This drive will take you to the little trodden parts of the region as you discover the mysteries of Indochina.

Founder of On the Road Experiences at On the Road in China

An Austrian-born Swiss, Peter has always loved driving. If it had been possible to drive out of his mother’s womb, he would have, so long-standing is his passion. Starting at the age of 18, he was in automobile racing for four years, his performance at German and European Championship Formula Super V, Formula III and Formula II races prompting Autosport to title their coverage of one of Peter's races at Silverstone "A Star is Born". Following his motorsport career, Peter completed degrees at MIT, an MBA at INSEAD and studied Japanese and Chinese at Harvard. Peter’s TED talk, Giving Chance a Chance, is the story of what happened to him when he stopped planning his life and instead began to follow his heart.

Travels can be recalled more vividly when they are connected to Smell Feel Taste See which we have enjoyed in a special place. We bring memories home with us like little treasures. We might re-live a special moment every time we open a bottle of wine or sake from a winery or distillery. We may find ourselves transported by the fragrance of a specific ingredient - say, Kampot pepper that we picked ourselves under the hot Cambodia sun - or the flavour of a dish recreated from our travels. An Malaysian-Australian Chinese, Angie loves road journeys as they give us a ‘front row seat’ to candid moments and more.
